Hi, I’m Kaitlyn, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia and Washington, DC, with experience in therapy and education. Before becoming a therapist, I spent years as a middle school teacher, which gave me a deep appreciation for the challenges kids and teens face every day. Whether your child is managing overwhelming emotions, navigating confusing behavior, or feeling misunderstood, I’m here to support you both through these moments.
Right now, you might feel unsure of where to begin. You’re not alone. Together, we’ll create a path forward that brings clarity and hope. Your child deserves to feel seen, heard, and valued, and you deserve support in nurturing those everyday connections that bring joy and growth.
I specialize in working with children, teens, and families experiencing trauma, anxiety, grief and attachment challenges. I also work with neurodivergent (ADHD, Autism, 2e, etc.) individuals, including families of children navigating Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). If your child has big feelings that feel confusing, I can help. If your child’s emotions sometimes feel like “too much” or they struggle with frustration, I can help. A child’s inner world can feel overwhelming, but with support, they can learn to navigate their emotions, build confidence, and trust their abilities.
When working with children, I use Child-Centered Play Therapy to meet them where they are - using their language of play. Through play, children can safely express themselves, develop problem-solving skills, and strengthen their sense of agency. They’ll begin to see themselves as capable, resilient, and worthy. With teens, I create a non-judgmental space for them to explore their identity, manage stress, and build self-confidence.
Parents, I understand how hard it can be to feel like you’re walking this journey alone. That’s why I work collaboratively with you every step of the way. Using tools from Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) and Circle of Security, we’ll explore ways to strengthen your connection with your child, understand their needs, and find solutions that support your family’s unique dynamics. We will look beyond your child’s immediate behavior and explore about how
to meet their relational needs, building and supporting their lasting emotional skills. You’ll feel more confident in navigating transitions, managing challenges, and delighting in the small but meaningful moments of connection.
I use evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused CBT, mindfulness, and play therapy, always tailoring these methods to suit your family’s unique needs. My focus is on helping your child and family build resilience, foster authentic connections, and rediscover hope in the face of life’s challenges.
You don’t have to do this alone. Together, we’ll create a supportive plan that helps your child thrive and your family grow stronger. Whether you’re looking for a way to address a specific struggle or simply want to build a stronger foundation for your family, I’m here to help.
