Amanda Van Emburgh Family and Child Therapy Vienna, VA

Amanda Van Emburgh

PSY.D., RPT-S, PRACTICE OWNER

Hi! My name is Amanda and I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist and a Registered Play Therapist – Supervisor (RPT-S). I am also the proud owner of Family & Child Therapy. I often view the world through a neurodivergent lens, as do many of my closest friends and family, and value approaches that honor cognitive and sensory diversity.

While I no longer see as many clients as I used to due to running a thriving private practice, I still love helping clients using a trauma-informed, affirming lens. In particular my focus over the past several years has been providing parenting support, therapy, and consultation to those who have neurodivergent children, or who are exploring the possibility of neurodivergence in themselves. My own lived experience in this realm as a parent allows me to both relate and learn from this population more than I could have ever imagined.

I’ve also found great meaning in supporting clinicians—whether through supervision of psychologists or play therapists, consultation, or helping them refine their approach to neurodivergent-affirming care. This shift has allowed me to remain deeply engaged in clinical work while prioritizing parenting and adult support, all while fostering a practice where affirming, high-quality care continues to grow.

I have advanced training in play and expressive therapies, as well as in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I utilize an integrative approach to therapy, bringing a strength-based approach to my work with young adults and parents..

If we work together, you might find that I will frequently use humor and (try to!) embody a sense of playfulness; both of which I find invaluable in the therapeutic process.

Finally, I am deeply committed to social justice and equality, integrating these values into my therapeutic approach and ongoing pursuit of advanced training and consultation.
